The Jack Earle Trio: The Music of Horace Silver
Horace Silver - One of the greatest composers of the Hard Bop era, had a career spanning almost 60 years, playing with all the big names in Jazz! Tonight. The Jack Earle Trio pays homage to this brilliant pianist, composer and all round legend.
The Jack Earle Trio thrilled to be playing with two of the best horn players in the biz: Mat Jodrell & Tim Wilson!
Trumpeter Mat Jodrell is one of the most exciting voices in Jazz today. He has recently returned to Australia after having lived in New York City for the past eight years, performing around the city and teaching at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music.
He has had the opportunity to perform with the likes of Benny Golson, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Branford Marsalis, Carl Allen, Bill Watrous and Gary Bartz to name but a few. He has performed in many of the world’s most famous jazz clubs in New York City including the Vanguard, Blue Note, Dizzy’s and Birdland, as well as touring to many of the largest festivals including the Newport Jazz Festival and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Mat is featured on numerous recordings as a sideman, and his latest album as a leader is entitled ‘Echoes Of Harlem’. Released in 2018 and recorded in NYC, it features one of the world’s finest trios - Frank Kimbrough, Jay Anderson and Lewis Nash. Since moving back to Australia, Mat has been lecturing at the James Morrison Academy, as well as recording and touring with many projects including his co-led group Speedball.
Tim is an Australian based saxophonist, woodwind instrumentalist & composer/improvisor, who has performed, toured, and recorded with a broad range of artists and ensembles including Ray Charles, Olivia Newton John, Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett, Hugh Jackman, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, The Australian Art Orchestra, Wyecliffe Gordon, Wayne Bergeron, Michael Buble, Bobby Shew, James Morrison, Jamie Oehlers, Rex Richardson, Scott Tinkler, & Mike Nock.
Tim was a finalist at the National Jazz Awards (Wangaratta Jazz Festival, 2009) and the White Foundation World Saxophone Competition (BBC Jazz Festival, London, 2004), and runner-up in the Taichung Saxophone Competition (Taiwan, 2013). He won the 2017 Bell Award with Andrea Keller for “Award for Best Australian Instrumental Album”. Tim is also active in the commercial music scene and has played on the 'Logie Awards', John Foreman’s ‘Big Night In’, ‘Dancing with the Stars’, ‘It Takes Two’, 'Good Morning Australia', 'Carols By Candlelight', 'Starstruck', and 'The Footy Show'.
