Sugg & Vance
Jazz musicians Andy Sugg (sax) and Andy Vance (piano) return in their duo and quartet set-ups. This unique partnership began in Melbourne 30-odd years ago and has seen them play major Australian festivals, release albums of original music, appear on radio and television, and have their music used in hit Aussie TV dramas such as The Secret Life of Us.
The duo format is rare in the jazz world — and distinguished. Australian audiences were big fans of the Don Burrows/George Golla duo. Burrows, in turn, was always a great supporter of the Sugg/Vance duo, support which began back in the ‘80s when he featured it at the Esso Australian Jazz Summit (Bondi Beach).
The Sugg/Vance duo has always played music for a new generation. Because of this it’s sometimes been compared to the legendary partnership of American trailblazers Dave Liebman and Richie Beirach. While the comparison is flattering, Sugg and Vance’s voice is their own — original, Australian and international.
Now, after a decade of solo projects with a focus overseas, Sugg and Vance return to Melbourne’s Jazzlab. The tunes are new and their uncanny musical connection has grown deeper than ever.
