The Tash Weatherill Quartet
The Tash Weatherill Quartet (TWQ) makes its debut performance at The Jazzlab for an evening of standard repertoire, original compositions and music by contemporary jazz artists of the 21st century.
Tash Weatherill is one of Melbourne’s up and coming jazz vocalists and completed her undergraduate jazz studies at both The Generations in Jazz Academy & The Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music. She had the privilege of studying under Gian Slater, Michelle Nicolle, Tony Gould, Barney McAll, and many more fantastic musicians during this time. Weatherill features regularly across popular Melbourne venues and the TWQ performed as part of the 2018 Melbourne International Jazz Festival program. Weatherill is also a recent addition to Gian Slater’s vocal group, 'Invenio Singers’, performing both improvised and arranged music that showcases the versatility of the voice.
Early in 2019, Weatherill collaborated with trombonist, Josh Bennier, to launch their debut contemporary jazz album, 'Chasing Game'. The album features original compositions by the pair, highlighting Weatherill’s poetic lyricism and Bennier’s harmonic prowess.
A 6-time vocal scholarship finalist at the Generations in Jazz Festival, Weatherill boasts performances with some of Australia’s finest musicians including James Morrison, Phil Stack and James Muller. As a big band vocalist, Weatherill has enjoyed performances across Australia including Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, Devonport and Melbourne, as well as opening for Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band during an east coast Australian tour.
Tonight, the TWQ will feature Nick Kyritsis on the guitar, Paddy Fitzgerald on the double bass and Lewis Pierre on the drums.
“A rare mix of class and guts,” Steve Sedergreen.
