Katarzyna Wiktorski Octet
Polish born, Melbourne-based; Katarzyna is a pianist, composer, arranger, producer and band leader. Inspired by Andrea Keller’s Wave Rider and Linda Oh’s Aventurine she formed her first major group the Katarzyna Wiktorski Octet in 2019. Fusing an unconventional string quartet with a piano-sax jazz quartet, her music is influenced by classical, jazz, film music and contemporary sensibilities.
Kat’s music explores light and dark landscapes that create an emotional, ornate listening experience. Since releasing her EP 'From a Distance' in November 2020, the album has been pressed on vinyl (sold out), featured on national and international radio including BBC6, Bandcamp weekly and was part of The Guardian’s Best 10 Contemporary Albums of 2020.
The octet sold out a show performing at The Jazzlab part of the 2020 Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival. This show will include two sets of original music including new arrangements and compositions.
