Third Floor: High Homes & Trad Ukiyo
Third Floor Showcase is hosted by Jazzlab on Saturday afternoon, featuring incredible bands from music degrees around Melbourne, curated by Tamara Murphy.
High Homes is Melbourne’s newest soul outfit. Fronted by the velvety vocals of Matt Whitbourne, the group mix rich and magnetic harmony with classic soul sensibilities to create a dreamy and feel-good sonic experience.
To complete the recipe for High Homes’ hypnotic sound you get textural guitar from the adventurous Josh Nelson; formidable drumming from resident timelord Lachie Riggs; a generous helping of smooth bass from groove-man Damien Roach-McCarter; and the cosmic synthesis from piano goddess Ainsley Turner.
Bottom line: High Homes wants to make you feel like you’re riding in a spaceship.
Trad Ukiyo are comprised of members Gabrielle Di Mauro (vocals), Adriano Proscino (keys), Brandon Farrugia (bass) and Fergus Kuhar (drums). This Melbourne neo soul outfit meld elements of soul, hip hop, jazz and r’n’b to create a sonic hybrid that holds you like a sweet dream that you never want to wake from.
Since forming in 2019, the group have hit strides with their live shows. Delivering tight, cohesive performances that range from the soft and euphonious, to high energy jams with soaring vocals and blistering solos.
After releasing their long awaited debut single "On Hold", Trad Ukiyo are currently at work on their upcoming debut album.
