Trumpeter and Vocalist Audrey Powne brings her new project to Tuesday nights at JazzLab in January. Having just returned from New York City where she recorded her debut solo EP to be released in 2018 Audrey returns to JazzLab to perform this music for the first time with a new ensemble of some of Melbournes finest and most versatile musicians.
The ensemble, consisting of long time collaborators and friends, renowned keyboardist James Bowers (Au Dré, The Vaudeville Smash) who will in fact be playing electric bass for this particular venture, Nicholas Lam (DXHeaven) on Guitar, and Gareth Thomson (Sex on Toast) on drums, with Audrey herself on a mixture of Vocals, Trumpet, and Piano will be performing new original repertoire which blurs the line between a number of genres.
Informed by Jazz Harmonic and rhythmic traditions but inspired by contemporary RnB and Hip Hop the music taps into the future of improvised music and jazz as it fuses more and more with contemporary music styles.
Audrey will be best known to Melbourne audiences for fronting Melbourne funk/soul stalwarts Au Dré and The Do Yo Thangs and for her numerous appearances as guest Trumpeter/vocalist with many local and international artist in addition to her own impressive career as a Jazz Trumpeter and vocalist.
