Shirazz Album Launch (with the New Nite Owls)
Shirazz launching their new self-titled album at the Jazz Lab! Shirazz, the band's fifth album, captures the authentic trad sound the band has become renowned for, featuring recording techniques from the golden era of acoustic jazz recordings.
The band stepped into the studio in September 2017. Eager to capture the energy and momentum of their live shows, Shirazz turned to traditional recording techniques - using just one principal mic in the centre of the room.
Shirazz's high-energy interpretations of pre-1930's compositions make them as sound fresh and vital as ever. Opening with 1923's Milenberg Joys, the tracks range from rollicking Dixieland numbers to ballads and blues. Ice Cream is a frenetic and chaotic tune, featuring a rowdy scat solo, while Buddy Bolden's Blues is a laid-back blues number from the very beginnings of jazz. The album also features a couple of original tunes.
Shirazz will be supported by Pat Miller's New Nite Owls, a six-piece band playing an exciting blend of jazz and swing. With hot solos and solid rhythm, their motto is "swing hard and swing often!"
