Donna Coleman - Concord Sonata project (USA/AUS)
US-born pianist Donna Coleman is world renowned for her interpretations of Charles Ives’s music. Her Concord Sonata disc recorded for Et’Cetera Records (Amsterdam) was awarded France’s Diapason d’Or upon release. Gian Slater, Eugene Ball, and Chris Hale join Donna to realise her troped version of this notorious, magnificent, “unplayable” sonata, embellishing the “written down” music with improvisations upon the pre-existing material (hymns, popular and patriotic songs, minstrel songs, marches, the mist rising off Walden Pond) that Ives weaves into his complex sound tapestry.
