MJC Presents: Eamon Dilworth Quintet (Syd/Melb)
Younger Sydney trumpeter Eamon Dilworth (Tijuana Cartel, Ed Kuepper, Low Down Riders) has been a positive and dynamic figure on the Sydney (and Australian) jazz scene. He presents his new ensemble, Viata, with Sydney-based members Alister Spence (piano) and Paul Derricott (drums) joined by Melbourne’s Julien Wilson (tenor saxophone) and Tamara Murphy (bass).
The original pieces constitute a pensive soundtrack capturing the mood to life experiences inspired by a trip to Romania - the experience of encountering a new city with a different way of life, morals and stories. Viata means “Life” in Romanian, in terms of how we continue to exist and simply be: learning to live with ourselves as we are.
“The trip opened me up to consider who I am, where I come from & how I deal with experiences and challenges. My musical output changed from this day to seek a deeper connection through my music and performance leading me to attempt to create soundtracks for my challenges in coming into adulthood.”
“Exquisite… in reaching into himself and finding ways to express what he finds there in music, he has found a voice at once entirely individual and yet, universal.”
