Third Floor is a month of performances curated by Tamara Murphy featuring tertiary students and their bands. Each week sees two bands perform live, with the emphisis on collaboration and exploration.
This week: Ginger Brown & Trad Ukiyo
Ginger Brown are a chordless quartet comprised of Callum Mintzis (trombone), Flora Carbo (saxophones), Angus Radley (bass) and Luke Andresen (drums). They will play a collection of originals amongst song-form classics, with an emphasis on individual expression.
Trad: (especially of music) traditional. “Trad Jazz”
Ukiyo: (浮世 “Floating, fleeting, or transient world”)
Emerging from the western suburbs of Melbourne, Trad Ukiyo are a collective who crossed paths during their studies at Victoria University. Their influences span from classical, psychedelic and modern jazz groups such as Hiatus Kaiyote, 30/70, Alfa Mist, Jordan Rakei, Joomanji and many others.
A song for every occasion; a song for every emotion; a song for every feeling. Trad Ukiyo are finally here to create soundscapes that feel good for the soul.
